Tail Trails

Finalist - Travel Photographer of the Year. December 2020.

Nature, Sealife, Wildlife Portfolio Category

Nestled into the nooks and crannies of the sea pinnacle, are hollowed-out indentations covered in anemones. Natural hiding places when the sun goes down or when bigger fish are on the hunt. The tiny fish swirl around in these dark recesses, trying to avoid becoming a tasty morsel. They are nocturnal feeders, and venture out to feed on plankton when the coast is clear. I wanted to capture the perpetual motion of these feisty little fish in their fight to survive each day in the ocean. This was shot using rear-curtain sync and a long exposure to enhance the tail trails of life on the move.
